About Us…

Martin Luther Memorial Home, Inc.

Martin Luther Memorial Home, Inc. (MLMH) is an organization associated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and was originally founded in 1958 as a home for seniors. Its mission was to support the physical and spiritual care for seniors in various types of senior care facilities. The organization grew to include six senior care facilities located throughout lower Michigan.

To better serve its mission, the decision was made to sell its physical care facilities and provide spiritual care for the aging through programs consistent with the tenets of faith of the WELS. In 2014, MLMH completed the sales of its senior care facilities and formed Martin Luther Memorial Home Foundation with the proceeds. The creation of this new entity will enable MLMH to use its resources to maintain the rich and important heritage of its original mission in supporting the spiritual care of seniors in the future.

Currently, the Foundation conducts three major senior care programs.

  1. Through its entity, Martin Luther Elder Care Ministries (MLECM), the Foundation provides support for a growing network of Chaplain Pastors who minister in senior care and assisted living facilities throughout Michigan.
  2. The Foundation has also supported the development of the “Geriatric and Care Facility Ministry” course offered by Martin Luther College and makes scholarships to this course available throughout WELS.
  3. The third program is a new grant program that is available only to MLMH Association Congregations.  The purpose of this program is to help congregations better serve the spiritual needs of their seniors.  Information about this grant program and how to apply is contained in the Senior Ministry Enhancement Grant page.
